Planted in Anderson Valley during the 1960s, Gewürztraminer is one of our region’s historic darling grapes. Following Chardonnay, it is the second most planted white grape in the valley, and there are currently 100 acres planted. Beginning in the vineyard, this grape is unique and exotic, as it turns to shades of iridescent pink right before maturity.
This wine has intense aromatics, and is usually crisper and spicier than the nose might suggest. Distinctive aromatics are rose petal and lychee, and the palate can be redolent of white stone fruit, tropical, and spice. Some wines may see barrel and lees contact, and styles range from off-dry to dry.
