Full Description

Carved into the steep, dramatic ridges of the “Deep End” of Anderson Valley west of Philo, the Bearwallow Vineyard represents a peak of high-density, hillside viticulture in California. Acquired in 2008 by Kevin Harvey of Rhys Vineyards, the 31-acre estate sits on ancient Bearwallow-Wolfey soils composed of fractured shale, quartz, and sandstone.

Under strict organic management, the hand-farmed blocks climb steep non-forested slopes up to an elevation of 600 feet . The severe soil limitations and maritime chill restrict vine vigor, concentrating sugars and minerals to produce structured, age-worthy Pinot Noir and Chardonnay of legendary precision .
