About the Variety
Sémillon is one of the rarest white grape varieties grown in Anderson Valley, cultivated by only a single vineyard within the region. Originally from Bordeaux, this distinctive grape thrives in the valley’s cool-climate conditions, producing wines with exceptional texture, complexity, and aging potential. Anderson Valley Sémillon is known for its rich mouthfeel and layered flavors of lemon curd, baked citrus, orchard fruit, and subtle tree nut notes.
Often displaying a characteristic lanolin-like texture, the wine can range from bright and refreshing to full-bodied and creamy depending on the winemaking approach. Many producers favor aging in neutral oak barrels, which enhances complexity while preserving the grape’s natural freshness and elegance.
