A Wild Escape into Anderson Valley Wine Country

An extraordinary wine region rooted in nature, community, and the art of cool-climate viticulture.

Anderson Valley wine region is a wild, mist-shrouded sanctuary where majestic redwood forests meet rolling hillside vineyards.

Tucked away in northern California’s rugged Mendocino County, just 110 miles northwest of San Francisco, our uncrowded appellation is a hidden haven for cool-climate viticulture. Established as a non-profit 501(c)6 organization in 2005, the Anderson Valley Winegrowers Association (AVWA) is dedicated to supporting, promoting, and safeguarding this world-class winegrowing community.

A Legacy of Resilience and Adaptation

CRAFTED IN ANDERSON VALLEY

A journey shaped by agriculture, innovation, and generations of independent winemakers who transformed Anderson Valley into one of California’s most distinctive cool-climate wine regions.

Exploring Our Microclimates and Soils

Marginal Climate, Virtuous Wines

Stretching 15 miles along the Navarro River, the valley acts as a natural funnel, pulling cold ocean breezes and thick fog directly from the Pacific Coast. This coastal draft creates extreme diurnal temperature variations of up to 50°F (10°C).

At the northwesternmost tip of the valley lies the legendary “Deep End”. Here, closest to the ocean, consistently cooler days allow grapes to ripen slowly, developing exquisite phenolic complexity and vibrant natural acidity while maintaining lower alcohol levels.

Pinoli Soil Series

High-altitude fractured schist on our steepest hillsides, forcing roots to dig deep into rock to yield intense minerality, rustic forest floor aromatics, and firm tannins.

Gschwend Soil Series

Rich loam over sandstone that provides exceptional drainage, resulting in elegant Pinot Noirs with bright red-fruit profiles.

Bearwallow Soil Series
Structured clay over sandstone that retains just enough moisture to build deep, dark-fruit characters and age-worthy tannic structures.
